SHhair2

Valentine’s Day is definitely our favorite time of the year. It’s a time filled with love and special sweet surprises for all of the important people in your life! Our beloved longtime classic candy, Sweethearts, is a staple for this season. Fans love to eat and share these little sweets with the cute sayings on them; they also love using them in holiday recipes, crafts and decorations.

In celebration of this, we will be having a Sweethearts Series up until Valentine’s Day filled with our favorite recipes, crafts, decorations and more. Many ideas are inspired by our amazing Sweethearts and NECCO fans! Stay tuned here on our World of NECCO Blog for all of the fun!

Today, we have a quick Valentine’s Day hair clip DIY. It’s the perfect accessory for your little Sweethearts fan to wear to school or to play with friends! [And who says you can’t wear one yourself! 😉 ] With very few supplies and a couple of minutes, you’ll be on your way to starting your Valentine’s Day celebration with Sweethearts! Enjoy & be sure to check in again tomorrow!

Supplies Needed:

  • Metal Hair Clip
  • Squeeze Glue Bottle or Crazy Glue
  • Glitter Glue
  • Sweethearts!

SHhair4

Instructions:

1. Clean your hair clip to make sure there’s no dust or dirt. This will help the glue and Sweethearts adhere better to the clip.

SHhair5

2. Take your squeeze glue bottle or crazy glue and spread a thin line along each edge of the hair clip. Then, line up four Sweethearts (or more if you have a bigger clip) and press each one firmly yet delicately onto the clip.

SHhair3

3. Pressing firmly helps to set the glue properly. Allow it to dry completely. Once dry and Sweethearts are secure to the clip, take the glitter glue and squirt a small dollop onto each of the Sweethearts. Using either your finger or a small paintbrush, evenly spread the glitter glue all over the exposed portions of the Sweetheart.

Allow the clip to dry completely so that it is not tacky in any way; this will help avoid any hair getting stuck accidentally! Once dried, clip it in your little one’s hair and get ready for a very sweet day! Enjoy! =)

PRU BOO Recap!

pruboopic

Back in October, we had the honor to sponsor the Prudential Center of Boston’s 20th Annual PRU BOO event! It was a wonderful day filled with trick or treating, crafts, games, singing and more for the local children of the greater Boston community. All proceeds from the event (which amazingly amounted to over $4500!!) went to benefit the Catching Joy charity of Boston, a charity whose mission it is to promote volunteerism beginning with young children and their families. They organize hands-on activities that kids can do to let them feel the joy of giving.

Overall, it was an amazing day as always filled with laughter and endless smiles. Click here to see just some of the spooky fun from the day on the Prudential Center’s Facebook Album!

In addition to sponsoring the event and providing the candy for all the little trick or treaters, we also were lucky enough to also have a craft table where kids could come spend some time making fun crafts with NECCO candies! As in the past few years, we had a coloring and craft station where kids were able to make two of our Halloween crafts:  Mini Clark Bar Spiders and Slap Stix Ghosts! Check out a few of the creepy creations the children made at our fun craft table!

Valentine’s Day Sweethearts Wreath!

Picture 223

Can you believe we’re already half way through January!? That means we have our eyes (and our sweet tooth) focused on one of our favorite days of the year: Valentine’s Day! It’s a special time of year when we are surrounded by sweet reminders of the love we have for one another.  Kids especially love jumping in on the fun of both decorating and sharing sweet gifts with their friends and family. To celebrate Valentine’s Day, here’s a very quick and fun craft for you and your kids to have fun with in order to decorate your house for this wonderful loving season! Enjoy!

Supplies Needed:

  • Regular white squeeze glue
  • Heavy duty card stock
  • Scissors
  • Pencil
  • Two circular objects for tracing the inner and outer rings of the wreath (ex. the lid of a peanut butter jar)
  • Your ribbon of choice
  • Sweethearts

Sweethearts

Instructions:

  1. Trace around the two circular objects on the heavy duty card stock, one circle inside the other, creating the wreath ring shape.
  2. Cut out the wreath. If your card stock is not sturdy, you can opt to trace a second wreath ring and glue the two together.
  3. Line up the Sweethearts before you begin gluing them to ensure a more organized fit and distribution of colors.
  4. Using the squeeze white glue, glue the Sweethearts onto the wreath one by one. Press them firmly down onto the card stock and hold for several seconds to ensure they stick.
  5. Let dry completely or else the Sweethearts will either shift or begin to fall off when applying the ribbon.
  6. Cut the ribbon of your choice to your desired length. Wrap it around one section of the wreath for sturdiness in hanging. Tie a knot at the top and hang your beautiful Valentine’s Day creation! =)
